How to Read the Visa Bulletin
The U.S. Department of State publishes the Visa Bulletin monthly, listing priority date cutoffs for each visa category and country of chargeability. If your priority date is "before" the listed cutoff date, you may proceed with the next step in your green card process.
The bulletin contains two key columns: Final Action Dates (when your case can be approved) and Dates for Filing (when you can file for adjustment of status).
What Does "Current" Mean?
When a category shows "Current," it means there is no backlog — any applicant in that category with an approved petition can proceed immediately, regardless of their priority date.
"Current" does not mean the green card will be issued immediately. It means the priority date constraint has been removed and the case can move forward in the adjudication queue.
Final Action Date vs. Filing Date
Final Action Date
The date when your case can actually be approved. If your priority date is before this date, USCIS can make a final decision on your green card application.
Dates for Filing
The earlier date when you can file Form I-485 (Adjustment of Status) if you are in the United States. Having a filing date does not guarantee approval.
